Hey babe! Did you ever find yourself in a beauty shop and wondering which skincare products to buy today? Actually you go in just to find a simple foundation because the favorite one you have is running out and you need something “new”.
Or maybe you’re the type of person who buys anything that looks cute, pretty or good.
I can be both 😀
As an Organic Skincare Formulation graduate, I’ve had hands on with many products – cream, toner, lotion, balm… u name it! As of now, if you give me any product on the shelf, I can tell you roughly what’s natural and what’s not. I can even tell you how much ‘active ingredients’ that you’re paying for…. probably just 1% :p
Before you buy any skincare products, you must know the basics, ladies.
There must be at least 3 items in your beauty regime:
A suitable cleanser
It can be a handmade bar soap or a foam cleanser or even a 2-in-1 scrub and cleanser. Anything that makes you happy.
A moisturiser
This can be a facial oil, cream, lotion or even balm – anything that moisturises your skin and makes you happy.
A base with SPF
What’s a base? I call it a base because it can be a primer, foundation, day cream or sunscreen to some of you. Here in Singapore, the UV rays are killing us softly… without you even realising. Babe, you must use a base with SPF. You must protect your skin.
Some optional skincare products may include: night cream, serum or overnight treatment masque. It’s up to you.
But that’s not what i want to talk about today!
Today, i want to teach you about 3 main types skincare products that you can find in every nook of any beauty shop.
They are:
- Water-based products
- Oil-based products
- Cream-based products
It’s 2017. So manufacturers come up with innovative products such as:
- Micellar Water
- Serum Masque
- Prebiotic skincare
- Dry shampoo
- Cream that changes color
- Peelable nail polish
- and many more
Whatever product it is, there must be a base ingredient – either water, oil or water + oil = cream.
By knowing this simple formula, you are able to choose a suitable product for your skin type.
For example, oily skinners choosing water-based products and dry skinners choosing oil-based products.
Look at the labels ok babe?
And because i’m writing abt this topic, I would like you to know that I truly believe in the efficacy of using facial serums.
It’s a fantastic product that can deliver actives and vitamins deep in your skin layers.
And also, I dont like to say that facial oils are facial serums. To me, they are 2 different things altogether.
A facial oil is nothing but a mixture of oils and probably some botanical extracts. Sold at maybe $50-$hundreds per bottle.
But a facial serum is much much more to me! A facial serum is a special product with a specific benefit for its users.
I repeat : SPECIFIC BENEFIT. Because cleansers and moisturisers can do the tough job, the serum SPECIFICALLY delivers actives and vitamins into your skin layers, deep down so that it works from the inside!
It could be a simple one – prevents puffiness around the eyes or lightens the skin…. a serum is special babe.
YOU SHOULD BE USING ONE NOW!
